Does Eating Clean Mean I Have to Buy Everything Organic?

Eating clean (non-processed food) is not only better for you and your family’s health, it’s better for the environment too. However, it’s not always easy to purchase organic foods due to high costs or availability in your area. Keep your shopping goal simple: a good rule of thumb is to eat foods that are in season and eat organic foods if you can. Think Farmers Markets. Focusing on recipes that utilize cleaner foods will help you branch out and try new ingredients! Make it a weekly or monthly goal to try a fruit or vegetable you’ve never heard of or used in a recipe. You just might like it!

The below list of foods is kept up to date each year by the nonprofit, Environmental Working Group (EWG). This is the current list of foods for 2023 and uses current data available to the public on the amount of pesticide residue on foods in the US.

But hear me out: Overall, fruits and vegetables are good for you, so don’t turn your back on them if you can’t buy them organic. It’s best to clean them well and reap the benefits of their nutrients and phytochemicals which have disease preventive properties!
